This group is for people with an interest in all aspects of the study and history of Art who love Art and want to see and learn more. We are a small and very informal collection of members and meetings are about two hours long including a break for refreshments and discussion. Dennis organises the session and one or more of our members might give a talk on an artist or school of art with illustrations from the laptop projected on the screen. Occasionally we have watched professional speakers using a DVD. We also make a visit or two to a Gallery of Art either locally or in London.

We encourage members to give a small, illustrated talk and many have done so, even never having spoken to any group before. Fresh ideas for subjects are always welcome. We would be delighted to see new members join us. Coordinator Dennis

ART APPRECIATION

In our last meeting we saw two DVDs by Prof.Kloss from his series on Great Artists of the Italian Renaissance. First was a talk on Urbino a city in the hills near the Adriatic which was in the C15 a centre of new Architecture and painting and this was followed by a talk on Mantegna well known for his experiments with the newish way of painting with accurate perspective. He flourished in Padua and Mantua in the C15.

In March on the 24th at 2.00 we have Jim Skelly back again. His series has moved on and this time we are in the Middle Ages with "Art of the Middle Ages and Stained Glass" . Medieval stained glass is so rich in its colours.

In April  Sue Thompson has kindly agreed to give us a talk and she will be presenting on Albert Goodwin 1845-1932 famous for his lovely British landscapes.

I hope to see you then and new people are very welcome.
