MONTHLY MEETINGS 2pm at West Maldon Community Centre.
81 members attended on Wednesday 6th May for our AGM, all the official business was covered and retiring committee members thanked; their replacements were welcomed. The speaker Gordon Brown gave us a massive amount of information about the SAS, including their role in Essex. 28 members voted him excellent and 27 as good. Some commented that the meeting was rather long but most commented about his enthusiam for his subject.

82 members attended our monthly meeting, our banking hub Chris was kept busy as they renewed their membership. Lots of people voted excellent as nearly everyone enjoyed the perfomance and humour.
Our March Meeting
75 Members attended out monthly meeting,
Not everyone remembered to vote to show their appreciation of the speaker.
49 members put their blue token in the box
13 said Excellent 13
21 thought Very Good 21
This was a mixed reaction; some people said they found her delivery rather quiet.
Our February Meeting was attended by 67 members who enjoyed the talk from David Ayers, he told us about the great sadness of his relatives but still made us laugh about his exploits. 41 people voted the talk as excellent and 21 as good. Lots of people made donations to Marie Curie.
Our January meeting gave us such a lot of information about Norway! Joanne Larner had so many surprising facts and amazing pictures to show us. 70 members attended the talk and 53 of them voted using the blue tokens.
The results were 49 members thought the speaker was excellent or good.

Our coordinators and new members lunch.
Nearly 40 people came to a super social lunch at the West Maldon Community Centre.
The committee are very grateful for all the organising that the coordinators carry out and we were pleased to see more than 20 of them sharing their ideas with nearly 20 new members. Everyone enjoyed a delicious lunch, there was lots of chat and laughter but no photos because I forgot!
Thank you to Janet for organising the event, Jenny for the food, the committee for serving and clearing up, including a champion washer up! Thanks to various people who leant a hand with all the jobs at the end. What a lovely group of people and a super event.
78 members attended our November monthly meeting and Sarah Watson told us all about the ways Hearing Help can make life easier for people with hearing problems. It was very interesting to hear all the help available. Only 45 members gave us feedback about the speaker, but most of them said excellent or good.

Our July meeting was a great success, nearly 70 members enjoyed the cream tea and socialising with each other. The Beetle drive challenged lots of us until we got the hang of the rules , although the scoring defeated some of us.
Thanks to Jenny and helpers for the cream tea and Chris for the games, bingo and raffle, lots of fun.

"The u3a movement is run by volunteers with the exception of a few paid personnel at head office. Blackwater u3a, like all the other u3a's is run by the members for the members. The whole ethos of the movement is of self help and mutual aid and every member has a part to play in the running of our u3a. People join the movement for many reasons not just "education and personal development" although these were part of the original concept but also to meet people and combat loneliness. What ever your reasons for joining u3a there is still an onus "to do your bit", I am convinced there are very few members who have nothing to offer. If we are to continue to offer a full programme we need your help!
Please consider very carefully what you are able to offer your u3a so we can continue to offer the activities that our members want and not only maintain the high standards that have been set since 2005 but also improve upon them.

We are a friendly U3A group of about 240 members that meet in Maldon, Essex, UK. We hold a regular monthly meeting on the first Wednesday of the month at the West Maldon Community Centre, this is a super venue [ Sunbury Way, Maldon, CM9 6YH, signposted from Maldon's Southern bypass road- Limebrook Way.]
We usually have a guest speaker. Each month, there is a lively programme of meetings, activities and visits coordinated by over thirty different interest groups. Any member can start a new interest group, so it's a great place to share your knowledge and experience with others.
Our U3A was formed in 2004, and is one of four groups in the Maldon area. Maldon U3A instigated the opening of the Blackwater U3A, and then, in turn, we kick-started both the Heybridge U3A in 2009 and the Limebrook U3A in 2011. These local developments reflect the growth of U3A groups nationally.
We are a registered charity - Registration Number: 1113334.
